The difference between unsaturated resin and epoxy resin

June 6th at 10:17am

Epoxy resin is an important type of thermosetting plastic, widely used in adhesives, coatings, and other applications. Also known as artificial resin, artificial resin, resin adhesive, etc. Artificial resin is a thermosetting epoxy polymer. Most artificial resins are formed by a chemical reaction between epichlorohydrin (C3H5ClO) and bisphenol A (bisphenol A) (C15H16O2).

What is unsaturated resin? The resin discovered early by humans is a fatty substance extracted from tree secretions, which is the reason why there is a "tree" before "fat".

For resins that can be heated, melted, cooled, and solidified repeatedly, they are called thermoplastic resins. For resins that are no longer reversible after heating and solidification and become insoluble and non melting solids, they are called thermosetting resins, such as phenolic resins, epoxy resins, unsaturated polyester resins, etc.

In summary, epoxy resin contains double epoxide groups and requires amine curing agents to participate in the curing reaction. The final product performance and curing agent performance are significant, but overall, the hardness and strength of the cured product of epoxy resin are higher than those of unsaturated polyester resin. Of course, the price of epoxy resin is twice that of unsaturated polyester resin. Generally, when making artificial stones, unsaturated polyester resin is chosen because it is cheap. When making flooring and anti-corrosion coatings, epoxy resin will be chosen because of its better performance.
